2nd Edition of “Children of Incarcerated Parents” Now in Production

The second edition of the book “Children of Incarcerated Parents” will be published by Lexington Books in 2006.

The first edition, published in 1995, will be updated by members of the CCIP staff and other leading practitioners who work with families involved in the criminal justice system.  The new edition will be edited by CCIP Director Denise Johnston, M.D.  Contributors will include Ann Adalist-Estrin of the Family & Corrections Network; Adela Beckerman, Ph.D. of NOVA University; Barbara Bloom, Ph.D. of California State University at Sonoma; Ann Jacobs, Director of the Women’s Prison Association; Arlene Lee of the Federal Resource Center on Children of Prisoners; Jim Mustin of the Family & Corrections Network; and Cassie Pierson of Legal Services for Prisoners with Children.

The second edition of “Children of Incarcerated Parents” will be available with a companion publication, “Working with Children of Criminal Offenders & Their Families: A Handbook for Practitioners” by Denise Johnston and the staff of the Center for Children of Incarcerated Parents.  Watch the CCIP Website Home Page for further announcements about these publications.

2006 CCIP National Training Institute Schedule

CCIP National Training Institutes are the only certificated training opportunities available for practitioners working with children of criminal offenders and their families.

In 1991, the Center for Children of Incarcerated Parents began a program of technical assistance to the field.  We currently work with 50-75 agencies per year, providing training, research and documentation, program design and development, evaluation and other types of technical assistance services.

The CCIP Training Institutes are another way to disseminate the information and expertise we have developed to the field.  Our first Institute, “Mommy, Baby & Me: Working in Mother-Child Correctional Programs” was offered in October, 2001.  We are pleased to offer additional Institutes that focus on a developmental approach to practice with criminal offenders and their children.  We invite you to join us in this exciting new work in 2006.
